DTV Myths

Myth #1: My TV will stop working on February 17, 2009 if I don't "do" something!

The DTV switch will only impact households that rely on over-the-air broadcasts. Cable and satellite subscribers will notice no change during the DTV transition.

Myth #2: My TV will require a converter box to continue working.

Only televisions that receive their signal via analog antennae will require the converter box.

Myth #3: All stations will begin broadcasting in HD as a part of the DTV transition.

While many stations will take this opportunity to upgrade their broadcasts, sending out an HD signal is not a requirement of the DTV switch.

Myth #4: The converter box will make my standard definition TV a high-definition TV.

The converter box will only allow your standard definition TV to receive the DTV signal. An HDTV will be required to view high-definition content.
